On June 28, 1968, the Lombardy Hall Foundation was chartered with the objective of operating exclusively for charitable, scientific, and educational purposes; to receive donations for charitable, scientific and educational purposes to be used in the United States of America exclusively for such purposes; to establish and maintain charitable, scientific and educational activities and institutions; to grant scholarships and fellowships, in any art or science; to grant aid to schools, colleges and universities anywhere in the United States of America; to use all its income exclusively for charitable, scientific and educational purposes.
As part of its charter, it undertook the restoration of the Bedford house due to the significance of its prominent and historic owner, Gunning Bedford, Jr., since he played such a vital roll in the creation of our Constitution, which is a building block of our current form of government. A substantial financial gift was received from a couple interested in preserving its heritage, which lead to the building's ultimate restoration.
The Lombardy Hall Foundation is a private 501(c)-3 non-profit non-Masonic organization and any donations made in its name are tax-deductible.
